Keep Your Filters Clean
Filters clogging all the time? If this is occurring regularly, it is most likely caused from your equipment sitting stagnant and not being circulated.
There are two types of filters on spray rigs that we need to check on a regular basis - the filters in the “Y” strainer (A and B) and the filters in your gun (A and B).
As chemical runs through these filters, contaminants can be collected and throw ratios off and affect foam/coating performance. If this scenario is occurring regularly, it is most likely caused from your equipment sitting stagnant and not being circulated. Proper maintenance and daily usage will help to prevent this issue.
If your equipment is going to sit idle for more than 7 days the following maintenance procedure needs to be followed to insure proper equipment operation.
EVERY 7 DAYS
This procedure should performed every 7 days when equipment is not in use.
- Follow your equipment’s Pressure Relief Procedure before cleaning, checking, or servicing equipment.
- Disconnect hose manifold from gun.
- Using just the transfer pump allow 5-7 gallons of material to recirculate though the entire system back into the drum. Do this for both the ISO and Resin sides recirculating the material back into their respective drums one side at a time.
- If your system includes recirculation lines be sure to circulate material through them as well.
- Reconnect hose manifold to the gun.
EVERY 14 DAYS
This procedure as well as the 7 day procedure should performed every 14 days when equipment is not in use.
- After performing the 7 day procedure power on the proportioner and turn on the hose heater allow hose to heat up for 15 minutes. Then turn on the A and B heaters and pressure up the machine. This will insure the pumps continue to move freely.
- Once completed park your machine, follow your equipment’s Pressure Relief Procedure then turn off the proportioner.
If you already have left your equipment sitting without recirculating or are looking to put your proportioner into storage be sure to check out our tech tip on flushing a high pressure machine.
